ups & downs

Supermodel joins Felicity Supermodel Tyra Banks has been added to the cast of the TV show Felicity, starring Keri Russell. Although the show has a devout
following, the ratings definitely needed a boost, and this might be just the ticket. Banks, who starred in Coyote Ugly this summer, will apparently play a new love interest for Noel (Scott Foley).

Dern sounds off

Actress Laura Dern, who was engaged to Billy Bob Thornton when he took off with Angelina Jolie, is finally speaking publicly about what happened. In the new issue of Talk magazine, Dern says "I left our home to work on a movie and while I was away, my boyfriend got married, and I never heard from him again." Nice touch Billy Bob. It is his fifth marriage.

Mr. Big gets even bigger
Chris Noth, who was formerly a regular on Law & Order and more recently played Mr. Big on HBO's Sex and the City, has signed on to do his own HBO series. In addition, he has signed a seven-figure deal to star in and produce a four-hour miniseries for NBC based on the Steve Martini bestseller The Judge. NBC plans to air the miniseries
during sweeps week.

The May-December romance between Jack Nicholson, 63, and Lara Flynn Boyle, 30 (The Practice), has taken a nosedive. Boyle has apparently moved her things out of Nicholson's home and rumor has it she's latched onto Bruce Willis, who recently showed his ex, Maria Bravo, the front door.

Sure, Cannes may have a more picturesque locale going for it, but many stars seemed to think Toronto in September was okay too. The film fest's 25th anniversary started off with a bang with Denys Arcand's Stardom and didn't let up, bringing 10 days of glamor and glitz to Hollywood North. This year, 329 films from 56 counties were presented. Despite heavy buzz for Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, Ang Lee's sweeping historical saga Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon captured the People's Choice Award. The fan-friendly fest is often a good judge of films
to keep an eye on - last year's winner was the Oscar-laden American Beauty.
