collectibles go, the ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in her role as Dorothy in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz would have to be the holy grail. One pair sold for a whopping $666,000 at a sale of movie memorabilia at Christies in New York recently.

Actor Sir John Gielgud passed away on May 21 in England. He was 96. Although Gielgud performed in countless plays and more than 50 movies during his career, he is probably best remembered for the acerbic butler in Arthur, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1981.


With her diamonds and pearls, 68-year-old actress Elizabeth Taylor was made Dame of the British Empire. She celebrates with her sons Michael and Christopher Wilding and their wives, and her daughters Maria and Lizzie.
