o guts, no glory," said Bette Davis. Responsible for giving the Academy Award its name, Davis dubbed it 'Oscar' since its derrière made her think
of that of her husband, Harmon Oscar Nelson. Hollywood's grande dame will once again be in the spotlight on July 19 when Christie's New York will offer her 1938 Academy Award for best actress for her role in Jezebel as the star of the Entertainment Memorabilia sale. The Oscar is expected to realize between $150,000 and $250,000. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Bette Davis Foundation, an institution that provides aspiring young artists with the financial means to pursue an acting career. In addition to her 1938 Academy Award the sale will also offer personal items belonging to Davis, including scripts, photographs, books, cigarette lighters, ashtrays and clothing.
