Caine Mr. Congeniality
Michael Caine showed all the grace and charm of an Englishman in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor for The Cider House Rules. Next, he'll join forces with Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality.

Van Damme Canned
His movies have been sinking in spectacular fashion at the box office lately and now his attempts at having any kind of career have been going up in smoke for action star Jean Claude Van Damme. The so-called Muscles from Brussels was asked to resign from his position with the board of directors of an internet company. Apparently, the company figured out that Van Damme had little to contribute to the business and decided to can him.

Canada's Midas Touch
"Blame Canada" took on a different meaning at the Academy Awards as the Canadian connection worked like a charm for several filmmakers. Toronto's Rhombus Pictures won Best Original Score for New York composer John Corigliano for The Red Violin, while Montreal's Pascal Blais Productions took the top award in the Animated Short category for Russian director Aleksandr Petrov's The Old Man and the Sea.

Halle Berry
Following a recent hit-and-run
incident, Halle Berry is being sued by a woman who says that she was permanently disabled by the actress who she accuses of being "stoned or drunk". Berry ran a red light last month and plowed into the woman who suffered a broken wrist and "emotional distress." The actress has had bad luck with driving. She was also sued in 1998.
